Symptoms
Basic information: patient has an extra chromosome 18 Effects Girls more often then Boys happens once in about 3,000 to 5,000 births.
Treatments: There is no cure for Trisomy 18, many babies with Trisomy 18 have feeding problems in this case they get a a dysphagia clinic or feeding specialist (i.e., an occupational therapist) n other cases, a G-tube may be necessary. Some children with heart problems have difficulty gaining weight. parents may work with a nutritionist Physical and occupational therapy should be provided to improve fine and gross motor skills. Some children have hearing and vision impairments. Hearing aides and glasses should be considered for such children.

Most cases of trisomy 18 are not inherited, but occur as random events during the formation of eggs and sperm.
