Early Greece Trojan Culture
Ancient Greece was discovered in 3400 B.C. not specifically by a person but by a variety of different city-states.
Food- The people of ancient Troy ate big meals like bread, meat, beans, and vegetables for a dinner. With that they drank wine. Depending on what your religion was, you would eat different things.
Entertainment- For entertainment Trojan men, they went to plays and enjoyed wine but women were prohibited from going. For entertainment for women they were taught music and dance lessons, they also took care of their family.
Religion- The Trojans were polytheistic, which meant that they believed in many different gods and goddesses. These gods and goddesses the Trojans believed in controlled everything from waves in the ocean to the winner of a race. They did religious practices by sacrificing animals, pray, and festivals. They also built temples and large buildings called a Parthenon in honor of the Greek gods and goddesses.
Clothing- The woman Trojans made and wore peplos. These peplos were poncho like garments that the women of ancient Troy were everyday. For men, depending on what your job was you wore something that fit the weather. Most men in Troy wore kilts or knee length tunics.
Daily Life- Men in Troy were expected to take an active part in public, that included things like fighting in war, being included in sports and plays, hunting animals for their community, and supporting their family. Women were supposed to lead private lives as a mother and/or wife. Slaves did things like take care of their boss’ family or working out in the sun almost all day.
Education- In ancient Greek boys and/or men had it better because they went to school and got an education but girls and/or women did not. The men and/or boys came home and taught their female siblings what they had learned that day. Some women actually learned a lot from this form of education.
Language- The Trojans of Troy in ancient Greece spoke Homeric Greek which is a type of Greek language. Therie are 24 letters in the Greek alphabet.
