The children of Angola

Who are we?? We are a group of kids from Copenhagen International School, Denmark, who are investigating on children in need in Angola. We really want to help these kids who are suffering from extreme poverty, violent enviroments, improprer caretaking,, etc.

The problem (in questions and answers) Where is all of this happening? Well if you didn’t get it from the title this is all happening in Angola, which is in South-West Africa. Who is affected? Are they poor, rich, how old are they? Well it might sound pessimistic but almost every child in Angola is affected. In Angola there are 12 million people and over half are children, most people in Angola are below the poverty line. What is the cause of all these problems? The main cause is the after math of the civil war between the government and smaller armed groups or warlords. This war caused many deaths and a lot of problems because a lot of children were abducted and abused during the time of the war. This also means that a lot of the children (affected by the war) need physiological help. What is the problem or obstacle they face? The problem, as you may have guessed, is that the people in Angola are poor. With poverty comes disease, malnutrition, violence and desperation. If you are a child bellow 18 years these are not the ideal living conditions and this is what really affects the children in Angola. Has their situation changed? Since the civil war, no, but if people really start to realize that just by giving these children small little things that they need or would like for example some toys or just anything that we take for granted something that would make their day or make them happy. What has been done to help them already? Not a lot except for the fact that UNICEF played a big part in helping demobilize the former or X-child soldiers but after that they didn’t do much to help the emotionally or physiologically.

Our solution For our actual project we had 3 main tasks: the first was to reaserch about the children, the second was to think of a solution (we did not have to actually do it but it had to be posssible), and the third was to raise awarness about it by getting commnets from anybody who we got to read it. This is our solution, or would be our solution. We know that we cannot help all of the children in need so what we would do would be to try and fing a smaller or local organization/shelter in Angola and ask them if we could give them anything (like old clothes, because the clothes these children wear are ripped and dirty, donated toys because these children need something so they stay happy and basically anything that could be useful). We can get all this stuff from our school because from our school lost property because every end of the year CIS throws out the lost stuff and instead of throwing it we can reuse and donate to children who could actually use them.

I like your glog and has some really interesting blog, and you included the right info. The only thing that you could have improved is adding some pictures or videos to explain their situation a little bit better, and you need to add a bibliography Ellie

Nice job! Your glog states the issue clearly and offers a realistic solution. The pictures on the second page provide a "face" to a problem that often gets lost in the fast paced media world. Thanks for taking the time to do it.
