For the next hour or so, Luke, Mike and I switched games and places, battling, racing and shooting one another on various games. Finally, we came to a score. Luke had 25 wins, Mike had 17 wins, and I had 14. I stood up and straightened my dress out. With a curtsy, I excused myself. “Thank you, gentlemen, for a wonderful set of games. But I am going to go surprise my Aunt.” I turned and went up the stairs. My brother said something about how I’m not good at losing. He was right, who likes to lose? But at least I’m graceful about it. Aunt Donna stood in the kitchen drinking a soda when she saw me. “Anna Sophie! Come here darling!” She said with a smile as bright as a summer’s day. I ran over to her and hugged her. “My, Anna, you’re looking lovely.” My Aunt was a very bright, cheerful and hospitable woman. Also, she was the only one allowed to call me Anna Sophie. Sophie is my middle name. “Thank you Aunt Donna. I got your gifts, they are wonderful! Thank you so much!” Aunt Donna laughed, her petite frame quivering with mirth. “Come on up Michael, you too Luke!” She called, getting some glass bottles of orange soda out of the fridge. When everyone was up here and had a soda, she proposed a toast. “To Annabelle, who has come back to Cali from Russia. May her stay be a blessing to us all! Cheers!” “Cheers!” Everyone said, clinking bottles. “Cheers…” Michael said, winking at me from behind the bottle. I laughed. While everyone was celebrating, I walked over to the bay window overlooking the pool in the back. The bright moon was crescent shaped and cast a light reflection on the water. Michael walked over to me and spoke to me. “Are you okay, you seem distracted.” His eyes stared into mine. I held my soda tightly, to prevent my hands from being in an unused position. I nodded, my curls bouncing softly off my shoulders. “You’re right, I am distracted. You know how we did that interrogation?” He nodded, frowning. “Well, it’s just, everything’s been happening so fast. I mean, it’s been a week almost. And as strange as it seems, I can’t stand the idea of going back to my old routine. I can’t stand the idea of not being able to see you.” I whispered, everyone was pulling their shoes on, we were leaving to dinner soon. “I guess I’m growing on you. Look,” he put his hands on my shoulders and looked me in the eyes. I realized in that moment, that we were just meant to be. Everything came so easily to us, we got along perfectly… He was everything I wanted. “Anna, if you want, we can stay in California. We don’t need to go back to the way things were. Do you want to ride with me?” Quickly, I brushed the teardrops from the corners of my eyes. “Yeah, I mean. If you don’t mind.” I smiled. His hand slipped over mine and we walked out to the car. As it turns out, my family was taking me to my favorite old fashioned buffet. The name slipped my mind at the moment, but I loved their pizza and I was dying for their chicken. Michael opened the door for me, then shut it once I was in the car. He got in and then continued talking as we pulled out of the driveway. “Look, Anna. Are you sure you’re okay? You seem distracted.” We were driving behind my Mom’s car, and in front of my brother. “Michael… I’m just a little tired. Do you want to go for a walk tonight? I kind of want to go to the beach.” His eyes sparkled. “Sure. I’m going swimming though.” I didn’t reply, I did however, find myself thinking about what he’d look like in a bathing suit. Ha-ha, I laughed to myself. “Well, here we are.” He stopped the car and tapped the steering wheel. When we got out, and he randomly hugged me. This restaurant is really neat, I reflected, as we were standing in the lobby waiting to be seated. The booths are red with black tables and the floor had beige carpeting. The lights are white hanging lights and the music is upbeat. We were seated in the back while my family was spread out throughout. I had a lot of fun there though. We ate and chatted and got to know some more things about each other. Our meal was delicious; I ordered soft serve chocolate ice-cream, a pizza and some fries. Then I canceled the bad foods out with some chicken cordon bleu and a light salad. Mm. I was thinking about Michael the whole time. He was gorgeous, that was for sure… I just wish I could stay here, trapped in this time.
