I sat on the roof, watching the people go by. My long, brown hair was pulled back on the side by a clip. I stared out at the crowd with my cool blue eyes. The city streets were wide and crowded. The night sky was dark against the brightly lit windows of the buildings. I’m Annabelle S. Higenov. My occupation is; covert operations officer of the Unionized Russian Government (UJG) of Russia, which is my country. My mission is to receive the invite to the VIP party of the Australian Government. Suddenly, I spotted my contact. I quickly climbed down the ladder on the side of the building. I met her. Jennifer is a sympathizer with my government. She handed me a heavily scripted card. I smiled. “Thanks Jen. When is this party?” I asked, slipping the card into my bag. Her dark blond curls bounced as she shrugged her shoulders. “Read the card, it should give the location inside. I have to get moving. I’ll see you later, call me.” She swiftly left me standing in front of a caf. I left, went to my car and drove home. My hotel was about four miles out of town. I stopped it in front of the hotel, and the valet took my car (a beautiful black RX7) to the garage. I gave the hotel elevator operator a tip and asked him to take it to floor C. “Thanks Charlie. It’s been a long day!” I said with a flash of my perfect smile. He tossed my key back to me. I unlocked my suite and stepped in. I pulled off my fedora, tan trench coat and hung them on the coat rack. My suite was extravagant, but I enjoyed it. I opened my satchel and took out the card. I read it. Cocktail Party 9:00pm-11:15pm Saturday the 25th at “The Sparkling Glass” R.S.V.P “Huh, no kidding? The Sparkling Glass that’s a pretty classy casino. Well, looks like I’ll have to break out the dress clothes. I don’t do that often.” I slipped the card back into my bag and went to my closet. I scanned it with my eyes. Aha, I thought. I pulled out my red dress. I frowned when I saw my black dress. I like that one too. I took them both out, then put my black dress away. The red one is nicer. Suddenly, my phone rang. “Hello?” I said, changing into my red dress. “Hi, is this Annabelle Higenov?” A male voice asked me. “Yes, may I ask who this is?” “Ah, yes. My name is Michael Darville. I was instructed to tell pick you up by your friend Jennifer.” “Um, I’m sorry. I’m not going anywhere tonight.” “She said you were going to the party at the Sparkling Glass, are you canceling?” “No. Fine, what time are you going to pick me up?” I put on my trench coat, tucked my pistol inside and started to put on my makeup. “Whenever you’re ready. I’m outside your apartment. I’m in the dark blue pickup.”I peeped out my window. Wow, nice truck, I thought. “Alright, I’ll be out in five minutes. Bye.” I hung up, slipped my cell phone and my knife into my purse, put on my lipstick and left. "Michael was waiting in the pickup for me. He got out when he saw me, and I was surprised. I expected a creep, but this guy was sophisticated. His tuxedo was perfectly made for him. He had light brown/blond hair and pale blue eyes. He smiled, opened my door and started talking. We had two hours before it was time to get to the party. “Annabelle- pleased to meet you. As I said, my name is Michael, call me Mike though. We have some time, so I’m going to drive around and talk to you for a bit. We have much to discuss.” About twenty minutes of awkward silence passed before he spoke. “Jennifer told me to take you, as did your friend Kia. They both seemed to think I should go to protect you.” He saw my questioning glance, and pulled out a very nice pistol. “That… and, Jen told me all about you.” “I see. Is there anything I should know about you, Mike?” I asked casually. “Ah… Yes. I’m 22 year old. I was born in the United States in California. My mother’s name is Leann; my father’s name is Neil. I have two sisters age 20 and 27; their names are Clarisse and Marie. I’m interested in traveling, swimming, pets, automobiles, writing and I love cooking. My first pet was a black horse named Coal.” He was still looking at the road.
