THE KOREAN WAR THE KOREAN WAR THE KOREAN WAR By Mrs. Hodgson
Effects of the War: The war has never ended although both countries are under an armistaice today. The South is still a Republic and the North is still communist. The North Koreans live in fear of their leader while the South Koreans live in democratic society. In recent times peole living in North and South Korea have been able to reunite with their families but this is still done under careful government control. South Korea and America have strong ties and there are still USA troops stationed in South Korea.
WHAT CAUSED THE WAR? Towards the end of WWII, Korea was roughly divided into two sections at the 38th parallel (an imaginary line dividing the two parts of Korea.) The 38th parallel is situated at the latitude point of 38 degrees. The Soviet Union were allies with North Korea and the USA were allies with South Korea. The UN was asked to help try to unify the country so the UN decided that the whole of Korea should have one election to elect a President ot the country. South Korea boycotted the election becuase they feared that Korea may all become communist if North Korea won the election. In June 1959 North Korea made the first attack on South Korea. The war began.
