March 3, 1940- Pete forms the 'Almanac Singers' with Woody Guthrie. They record very left wing minded songs. 1950- the 'Weavers' formed. They were blacklisted by TV and radio programs due to their ideals and political views. 1956- Seeger subpoenaed by the House Un-American Activities Committee. He claimed that to discuss his political views was a violation of his first amendment right. 1961- Seeger found guilty of comtempt due to his music. Sentenced to a total of 10 years in prision, however the case was dismissed on a technicality. When the Vietnam war broke out, Seeger wrote the song, 'Waist Deep in the Big Muddy' bashing Lyndon Johnson's war policies. Seeger has recorded around 100 records to date. He is currently very active in environmental awarness.
