Abraham Lincoln 1809-1865 President from: March 1861-Apr. 1865 Considered one of the best presidents, and a great war leader.
Abraham Lincoln started out on the illinois legislature as a whig member. Lincoln became a lawyer in 1836 and was successful. Then in 1861 was elected president.
During a play at the Ford's Theatre Abraham Lincoln was shot in the back of the head by John Wilkes Booth. He died the following morning.
