~ Geographic Range: From southern Canada, through the US, Mexico, & Central America as far south as Costa Rica. ~Habitat: Prefers sunny areas among flowers shrubs & tall plants and on walls. Physical Description: ~ Females much larger size than males, Adult females range from 19 to28mm / males reach only 5 to 9mm. ~ In both sexes, the shiny, egg-shaped abdomen has a striking yellow or orange markings on a black background. ~ It has 3 claws per foot, one more than most spiders, to help handle the threads while spinning. Also it has a venomous bite that immobilizes prey that's caught in web ~ The cephalothorax, is covered with short, silvery hairs.. Legs are mostly black, with red or yellow portions. ~ It has four pairs of eyes on the top-front area of head.

HUNTING & FEEDING HABITS This Spider easts bugs and other spiders. It builds webs on plants and walls in sunny open habitats such as in fields and gardens. It weaves a web with a zig Zag pattern in the center. It can reach up to 2 feet in diameter. The silk is sticky. This pattern strengthens the structure of the web, camouflages the spider and may help attract the insrcts. It detects its prey mainly by feeling vibrations on the web ,it injects its prey with venom and wraps it in silk, quickly eating it with an enzyme in its mouth.
