The Great Depression effected many lives during its era. After the Dust Bowl, there were many Okies and others that held debt due to the loans they borrowed and that led them to migrate to the West in search for jobs. Others left their homes because of foreclosure and poor land to farm on. Although the West seemed to promise a new future, many Okies were still unemployed and homeless. Some however, built shack homes and others soon followed creating shack towns.
Life During the Great Depression
Now, the economy has gone down and more and more people are realizing that they need at least a bachelor's degree to get a job. Therefore the attendance rate in college has increased along with people completing their degree. Others who don't go back to college or go to college are spending their money cheaply. In other words, they're frugal. Life during the current recession isn't as hard as life back then but still, it's hard to survive.

During this era, the suicide rates went up and many men abandoned their families because they felt ashamed of themselves. Those men traveled around the nation looking for jobs and soon ended up in the streets as a hobo. Others couldn't afford money to buy food so they (usually men) often stood in lines to wait for food at the soup kitchens that offered free food. Most children were left to fed for themselves while others' familes stuck to eachother like glue. Living life during the Great Depression was a hard time, indeed.

Trying to survive in the current recession is somewhat the same as trying to survive in the Great Depression. Nowaday people's houses are going down for foreclosures and there has been a reduce in consumer spending. Inflation on food has also arose due to oil prices. Just like the Great Depression, unemployment rates shot up and now many people are left without jobs.
