As they gained control, the Serbs went to city to city, shooting down helpless civilians. The Bosnian Muslims were outgunned and were usually rounded up then shot in mass killings. Men and boys were put in makeshift concentrations camps while women and girls were raped. The Serbs also destroyed Muslim mosques and historic architecture. While this was happening, most of the international commmunity remained indifferent. The UN deployed troops to protect the distribution of food and also supervised a total of six Muslim towns, calling the Safe Havens. However, effective military intervention did not happened until late August 1995, after the Srebrenica killings
An estimated 2000,000 Bosian Muslims were systematically murdered by Bosian Serbs. In addition, more than 20,00 were missing, while another 2,000,000 became refugees

Srebrenica: considered one of the Safe Havens until one of the worst genocidal events of the four-year conflict occured. UN peacekeepers stood helplessly as Serbs selected and slaughtered 8,000 Muslim men and boys. The Serbs also raped the Muslim women.
