When You've Got Trouble You've been kicking in your sleep Tossing and turning relentlessy and I know you'd be lying if you told me you were fine You've been screaming in your head Swallowing the words that I know you would've said if you would just breathe Oh my heart is tangled all around you When you've got trouble I've got trouble too Oh my life is arm and arm with you When you've got trouble I've got trouble too You and I live like the tree and the vine Oh my darling we're so delicately intertwined I'll ease your pain 'cause you've eased mine
I spent a lot of my adult life relying only on myself because it felt safe. I didn’t trust the men I dated to be there for me. Maybe I chose them because they seemed so unreliable. I might have been sabotaging myself. Eventually, I decided that I deserved better than what I was accustomed to, and I worked hard to find the guy who could be there for me the way I was willing to be there for him. I wanted to find someone who would have my back and I would have his back. When I met my husband, I finally found that person. And I knew it right away. I knew I could trust him; I knew I could count on him; I knew I could lean on him. I didn’t always have to be the strong one and being vulnerable didn’t have to make me feel weak. When I first heard this song, “When You’ve Got Trouble” by Liz Longley, on my XM Radio Coffeehouse Channel, it reminded me of the kind of person I’ve always been in a relationship. But I know now that I have that in return. “Oh my heart is tangled all around you/When you’ve got trouble, I got trouble too/ Oh my life is arm and arm with you/ When you’ve got trouble, I’ve got trouble too . . . You and I live like the tree and the vine/ Oh my darling we’re so delicately intertwined/ I’ll ease your pain ‘cause you’ve eased mine.” ~Lisa Rocklin
