This glog is about the symbolism found in the oh-so-wonderful novelle, "Of Mice and Men."
The mice that Lennie is always capturing symbolize independence. They are the only thing he has that is solely his own. He tries to keep it that way by hiding them from george
OF MICE AND MEN
BY CHELSEA ADAMS
There is a scene in both the first and last chapters about a heron resting on a river. The second time this scene occurs, there is also a snake swimming peacfully through the water, just going about life carefree, and all of a sudden, the heron ends the snakes life. This goes along with the poem, ''To a Mouse'' where it says plans of mice and men often go askew. The snake represents Lennie and the heron represents George.
The rabbits that Lennie is always striving for represent hope for the future and the American dream.
I think that Candy's dog symbolizes Lennie. They are both useless. They both die by being shot in the back of the head which makes an easy connection in the viewers head between the two.
*keep in mind that symbols dont have one right answer, they are specific to the person defining them.
