Epic simile - Odysseus fights a common man like a lion that attacks a helpless fawn..
Odysseus, king of Ithaca, is the epic hero. He has several qualities that make him an ideal epic hero. He is a great warrior, and one of the best carpenters and hunters of Ithaca. Because of his superior skill and intelligence, he is able to maintain his power even after being absent for many years. Odysseus left his home to fight in the Trojan War which lasted 10 years. After he won the Trojan War, he spent the next 10 years trying to get home!
Epithets -"wind-dark sea."
Personification - “When the young dawn with fingertips of rose lit up
Point of view - The narrator speaks in the third person and is omniscient. He frequently offers insight into the thoughts and feelings of even minor characters, gods and mortals alike.
The technique of flashback is used to tell the story.
Symbolism -The sea of life...man's journey through life can be filled with uncertainties.
