So then Vietnam was divided into two parts; North and South Vietnam. The communist were in the North and the French overruled the South. The US became more involved when they realized a "domino theory"could occur. The US managed to replace some of the leaders. But then the one's they used ended up as esily corrupted as the first. Meanwhile, the antiwar movement within the United States gained momentum as student protesters, countercultural hippies, and even many mainstream Americans denounced the war.
The Vietnam War lasted through the years 1945-1975. These following countries were unfortunately involved...North and South Vietnam, US, Laos and CambodiaTherefore the war began because the Vietnamese were tired of being ruled under the French. So a communist leader named Ho Chi Minh was going to "solve" the problem. He wanted the US to aide them. However the US distrusted Ho Chi Minh and his communist ways.Instead they helped the French.
Nixon bombed North Vietnam—to pressure the North Vietnamese into a settlement.The U.S. government continued to fund the South Vietnamese army, but this funding quickly faded. In August 1974, North Vietnamese forces attack the South and finally launched an all-out offensive in the spring of 1975.On April 30, 1975, the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese, who reunited the country under Communist rule as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, ending the Vietnam War.
