Hindu Mythology
In Hindu mythology ther many gods and goddesses just like in Greek mythology. There are three main gods: Shiva the destroyer, Vishnu the protector, and Brahma the creator. Brahma and Vishnu would be like the Zeus of Greek mythology. Underneath them are the gods that control specific elements such as Varuna the god of the ocean like Poseidon and Agni the god of fire.
There are fourteen different worlds in Hindu mythology. These are not planets they are like heaven and hell. Seven worlds are like heaven and the other seven are like hell. Earth is considered the lowest of the seven good worlds. Yama the lord of justice counts the person good and bad deeds on Earth and then decides where they go. Until the persons soul reached the highest world they were reborn on Earth as humans so they could do better deeds and reach the highest worlds.
The gods used many different weapons. They used normal human weapons such as swords and daggars and also used godly weapons. Goddess Indra used lightening bolts like Zeus. They also used lots of powers. Nagastra could make the sky rain snakes on his enemies. Agni could set his enemies on fire. Many gods had astra the power to move and throw objects at their enemies. This is like 'The Force' in Star Wars.
Just like in Greek mythology Hindu mythology has epics. One of the famous poets was Adikava Pampa,; he was like the Homer in India. The most popular epic is called Ramachandra. The main character is Rama. He is the perfect man and is what everyman should. He was believed to be a descendant of Vishnu.
He was married to Sita who was the perfect women and believed to be a reincarnation of Lakshmi hindu goddess. She watned to show the world the good virtues women should have. AS the story goes on Rama and his wife Sita are exiled to a forest for fourteen years. Sita is kidnapped and Rama must go find her. In the end he does.
