Personal response: It was sad to read the journal entries and how Chris was dying of starvation. If only he could have crossed the river, or taken his dog with him. If he had only had a map! He managed to drag inself out of the bus and left this note: S.O.S. I need your help. I am injured, near death, and too weak to hike out of here. I am all alone. This is no joke. In the name of God, please remain to save me. I am ou tcollecting berries close by and shall return this evening. Thank you, Chris McCandless, August ?. His experience must have definitely changed him, since he was ready to return to society. He realized that love was meant to be shared.
Journal entry: It rained a lot in July, and the last three weeks I killed thirty-five squirrels. The problem is that the meat was too lean. The one thing I regret is killing the moose. I have been eating potato seeds, but I am starving and too weak to walk. I have had a happy life and thank the Lord. Goodbye and may God bless all. I am going into my sleeping bag now.
