Physical Description of Adeline: Even though Adeline is an unwanted daughter, the only thing she first aspires to have is acceptance and love. She is a strong and determined character, as well as being intellegent and hardworking. These qualities overshadow her stubbornness, and m,ake her seem more confident than she actually is.
Description of Setting: Chinese Cinderella takes place in China, during the time of World War 2. It first starts in Tianjin, then the family moves to Shanghai, then back to Tianjin. They live in a very isolated and lonely environment, but things eventually get better when Adeline goes to England.
How to Read Like a Professor: This "trip" is Adeline's departure to Tianjin, forced by her parents. Adeline is not be the quester, she's not exactly looking for something, but she did find something unexpected. Her reason to go there is because of the bad influence set by her Aunt Baba. She did have many obstacles to face, (the Communists. not being with her Aunt, seeing her schoolmates leave, and just being helpless).
Reccomendation: I recommend this book to really anyone. It was a very unique version of the classic ''Cinderella''. It was not that difficult to read, just very informational about how a typical Chinese family lived during the time of World War 2. I learned a lot from this story, and it really teaches you to keep striving for what you want to achieve, even if your loved ones get in the way.
Significance: This quote shows how unwanted and disliked Adeline was in her family. With this quote being in the beginning of the story, it sets the tone for how Adeline will be perceived by everyone else.
Significance: This quote, said by Aunt Baba, means a lot to Adeline's achievement and how she overcame her obstacles. It shows how she will continue to progress at her dreams of writing and her dreams of acceptance by not just her family, but by everyone.
