'Alrite, this will be the mirror and it will go over there. The bed will be in that corner, and the dresser will go in the other. The closet will be against that wall,' narrated Nareen, Kelly's mother. 'She's only 6 months, we still have time, dear,' ossured Kelly's father, Max, as he took Nareen's hand and held it looking into Nareen's sparkling designer eyes. 'Oh Max, I can just see it!' exclaimed Nareen clasping her hands together. 'Come on, let's go check on her,' smiled Max, leading Nareen out of the blank room. Kelly had been asleep in her crib downstairs. Her room now was to be turned into a gaming room, since there was enough space to have at least 5 king sized beds in there. Her parents had made a second floor, that was basically all to their daughter. When Kelly turned 4, she squealed with happiness when she was brought from the stairs to her room. The whole second floor was still being devolped into her own little haven. Her parents watched excitedly as their daughter was happily overwhelmed in surprise. They looked into eachother's eyes and smiled, thinking they had done the right thing. When Kelly turned five, it was time for her to go to kindergarden. At this time, she was very happy. She had her own floor for a playplace with no one to tell her 'don't do that' or 'no' and no discipline for childish behavior. Nareen came upstairs to wake her for her morning preparations as a kindergarder. Nareen put up her child's hair and dressed her in a cute girly jumper. Kelly looked like a mini barbie doll minus the makeup, smile and all.. As her mother went back down the stairs, telling her she only had a few minutes until she would take her to school. Kelly squealed with excitement and danced around the room. She looked into her mirror and saw her reflection gaze back at her, happily. 'Well Kelly, you'll always be happy,' smiled the little girl as she bounced down the stairs and flew out the door to meet her mother's car as they went off to kindergarden. After she got home she danced around the whole house. Her dad was on his laptop, playing a computer game. Her mom, cooking dinner, asked her 'How was school?' She replied, 'Mom, it was amazing! Everybody is so nice! We-' Her mother interrrupted her,'That's nice dear. Now go upstairs and do your homework.' Kelly shrugged and then rushed upstairs to her room where she finished her homework and then played. The years of elementary for her whizzed by as she was the top student and loved by everyone. The most popular girl in class, never really exposed to drama. Ever since kindergarden she always looked in the mirror telling herself positive things as the reflection always looked happy, and in the 4th and 5th grade, began to look beautiful as well. However, when 6th grade began, alot of drama began to happen. She was called bad names, fat, ugly, and even more. Kelly never actually thought about the way she looked. Her reflection always looked happy and she was fine with that. When she went home, she was sulking. Her dad was still messing around with his laptop, not noticing his daughter. Her mother however, turned around when her answer to how was school wasn't with her always cheery voice. Nareen checked Kelly's temperature and seeing that it was alright asked her what was wrong, leaving her cooking for later. Kelly confessed the words of the 6th graders that were bringing her down. Her mom looked over her daughter then said, 'You're not fat. Don't believe those horrible people.' Kelly smiled saying,'Okay mom.' The rest of the 6th grade continued like this, people calling her fat and ugly and each time she looked in the mirror she appeared that way. Over the summer, she started going annerexic. The next year of 7th grade, as school started, she was worried sick. As the usual prep began, she got dressed and looked in the mirror. Thin and beautiful, which was all it took to put another smile on her face. As school began she was called skinny, thin bones, paper, and tooth pick. This was better than being called fat, but she was still depressed. When school ended she was relieved yet again, but the damage had been done. She was down to below the nerd level. She had no self-esteem. Over the summer, she began to just look at herself instead of relying on the mirror. She actually was rather thin, so she began eating. Over the summer, she began to gain the shape she wanted, not thin, not fat. This was determined by her, not the mirror, not the people. The next time at school in 8th grade, some called her fat and some called her skinny but she listened to both but began listening to herself and her friends who she met up with from elementary. 8th grade ended and she was in the middle of the popularity chain. She stompted her way up the stair, dad still ignoring her, but her mother concerned. Then she tore open the door to the mirror and dared to look into it. Her figure looked half fat and half thin divided vertically. She looked at her body then at the mirror, seeing the difference. She said,' Oh my, you have tricked me all this time.' As she shook her head she began thinking if the mirror showed her what she looked like in her mind or to other people. Eventually, she decided to try the evil queen method. She said,'Mirror what do I look like to myself?' and watched as the mirror went into a mist and showed a half fat half thin figure. She then asked,'Mirror, what do I look like to other people?' and watched again as the mirror showed a mist and then a half fat, half thin figure. Her eyes got big as she learned it showed her both, From that point on she decided she would only focus on what she thought herself was, not what other people thought of her. In 9th grade, her thinking, proven by a mirror, had finally seen herself. HER body, HER smile, HER. Not what other people think was her body, not what other people thought was her happiness, not what other people thought of her. This continued as miraculously her popularity went back on top. After she graduated with love from everyone, she decided to look at the mirror before she moved out about what people saw of her, and for once, the mirror showed her exact reflection on both sides. She laughed and called her mom and dad up. She asked them to stand where she was and look into her mirror. Nareen saw a 'fair weather only' person who only cared when something got horrible. Max saw a neglective person who never showed attention and never actually cared. Nareen and Max stared at their daughter as she explained about the mirror and how she had finally gotten it to show her true reflection: By listening to herself and not others and putting her mind the way she is and how nobody can change that. Which comes to show you: You have to live your life not caring what others think of you, just as Kelly learned.
