Danny W. Egg Drop
(SCROLL) Applications in real life. There are a few things in cars that are designed to increase the time of an impact, one is the long hood of a car. This long hood allows it to smash longer and decrease the force on the people inside. Another example is when a parachuter lands on the ground he bends his knees to increase the time of impact, therefore reducing the force on his body.
Did it break? Before i begin, i have to explain that the entire class had the same momentum with their egg cases. This was because they all had the same mass and, because we all dropped them from the same spot they had the same velocity. Therefore the only thing that's different is what's inside the box, or the time of the impact on the egg. This is called the impulse, or force over a period of time. Our goal was to increase the time and in turn, decrease the force. My egg did break, this is because i didn't increase the time enough, therefore the force was too much and broke the egg.
What was this project about? The Egg Drop Eggstravaganza was a project that we are doing in physics class designed to teach us about momentum and how we can apply this to an egg in a box. We basically had to create a box that we can drop off of the top of the bleachers that will keep an egg from breaking My egg case? My egg case was quite simple, i took a shoe box and filled it with paper towels and marbles to achieve the correct mass.
