Aphrodite
Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty.
The Roman equivalent of Aphrodite is Venus.
Aphrodite is often characterized as vain, ill-tempered, and easily offended.
Zeus was frightened that Aphrodite's immense beauty would cause violence between the gods. He decided to marry her off to Hephaestus, the ugliest of the gods. Hephaestus, having been cast off from Mount Olympus by his mother Hera because he was ugly, believed that this was his ticket back to his birthplace. Aphrodite was unhappy with the marriage and seeked companionship with other gods, such as Ares.
