Piaget is famous for identifying the stages of intelligence that develop as a child grows. He called these stages the stages of cognitive development.
Jean Piaget: 1896-1980
They are a sensory-motor stage, from birth to age 2, a pre-operational stage, from age 2 to 7,a concrete operational stage, from age 7 to 11, and a formal operational stage, from age 11 on.
He became interested in psychology for a variety of reasons. One being that his mom was a bit nuerotic and this led to part of his interest. Also Piaget wanted biologial explanations for thinking and philosophy was not providing that for him.
DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY
Piaget was intelligent even as just a young boy. His first published a paper at age 10. More were published in his teens and even more in his adult life.
