Child Labor Around the World

Afghan children are sold off to rich Pakistani men, and become indentured servants, factory workers, farming slaves, and miners. The rich Pakistani men (who are usually owners of carpet factories, mines, etc) wait for children to be sold at the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Some are even sold by their own parents.
Children in Mali work as slaves in gold mines. They have to work with mercury to separate gold from the ores. Mercury is very toxic, and causes severe nerve damage. Almost all of the children working in these sites are found to have respiratory problems and joint pains from carrying the heavy gold ores around the mining site.
Child farmworkers under the age of 18 in the U.S. work in the burning hot weather (summer) for hours, which causes several health issues like hypothermia and heat stroke. They are also exposed to pesticides that can result in cancer, brain damage, and even reproductive problems.

After reading, I hope you realize how lucky you are to be sitting back in your comfortable chair and reading this. While you are social networking with your friends through Facebook, Skype, etc in your bedroom, child laborers are constantly working in fields and mines for survival.
