This portrait represents who I was when I was in high school. "The Grapes of Wrath" was a book I read my junior year. It really made me appreciate and get interested in literature. I was starting to get into French Poets such as Rimbaud and Baudelaire. My favorite T.V. shows at the time were "My So Called Life" and "The Simpsons." Music was a huge part of my life. Bikini Kill was a band that was part of the Riot Grrrl movement, which was an underground feminist punk movement. I also really liked The Smiths. During this period I started learning how to play the bass guitar. Computers and the Internet were gaining in popularity. One current event I remember was the genocide in Rwanda. I saw a special on it on T.V. and cried the entire time. I couldn't believe that President Clinton wasn't doing more to help. The picture of the books on the beach is there because my parents used to take my family camping a lot in the summer at Apache Lake.
