This is a picture of a 14 year old boy who was murdered in Mississippi. He was lynched by some white men who murdered him for whistling at a white girl.
The men who killed Emmett had gouged out his eye, and then proceded to beat him and shoot him in the head. Then they tied a 70 pound cotton gin to him with barbed wire and threw him in a river.
There was an all white jury at the trial for Emmett Till's murder. The trial only took 69 minutes. Both the defendents were acquitted. One jurt memeber said that if they wouldn't have stopped to drink pop it would not have taken 69 miutes.
The mother of Emmett Till had asked for an open casket funeral. To show the brutality of the beating.
When Police had found Emmett Till's body it was so swollen and decayed that police could not identify him. It was only because he had on his fathers ring that his mother could identify him.
