Luke Garner is an illegal third child. All his life he has spent hiding. Now, for the first time,Luke is living with others. He has recieved a dead boy's(Lee Grant) identity and is now going to Hendericks School for Boys,a windowless building with rude classmates and teachers who don't care. Luke knows he has to blend in, but he lives in fear that his behavior will betray him. Then one day, Luke discovers a door to the outside. He knows that outside the wall of Hendericks, there are secrets he is desperate to uncover. What he doesn't know is who he can trust and where the answers to his questions will lead him.
