The Black Death
Black Plague Video
Affects on Society: -people abandon the town (self exile) -non-sick people lived in homes by themselves -people try to protect themselves by putting flowers up to their noses, because they believe that if they couldn't smell anything but the flower they wouldn't be affeted by the disease Affect on Religion: -people began to question the church, and believe that god may have sent this disease upon them -people begin to believe that prayer isn't enough Affect on Economy: -coined money returns Affect on Politics: -increase the king's power, because power is being taken away from the church and nobles; and the trade & travel also increases the power of the king because he has to sign charters for the different towns
More Reactions of People: -some people sought refuge in their religion when the plague reached them -some accused Jewish of poisoning water -took pilgrimages to try to stay away from the disease -some shun the sick -some decided there wasn't going to be a cure for the disease
More Effects: -manufacturing began to bustle -increased demand for labor, which lead to higher wages -decline in feudal warfare, which lead to revival of travel and trade
Spread of Black Plague
Spread of Bubonic Plague: -the disease is carried by rats and spread by fleas who reside on the rats -The rats carry fleas that bite them and attract the plague. . .then the fleas jump on humans and bite them. . .giving them Bubonic Plague -the disease is also spread by healthy getting in contact with the sick -the people who traded with the countries that were infested were also infected with the disease -most of the attempts to cure the disease failed because the studies weren't based off science they were mainly based off of religious beliefs
