The Crusades
Short and Long Term Consequnces -stimulated trade which lead to economic growth -helped renew interests in the Middle World -relations between Eastern and Western Europe collapses -a number of Christian kingdoms were set up in the Middle East
Motives for Interaction: Church's Motives: -pope believed that the Crusades would lead to a reunification of the Catholic Church -the church would have the ability to challenge the king's power -want to recapture the Holy Land (where they believe Jesus taught and preached) Monarch's Motives: -oppurtunity for travel and adventure -gave kings oppurtunity to get rid of trouble making knights
The Crusades began in response to the effort to rid Spain of Muslim inhabitants. The Crusades were holy war sponsered by the papacy for the recovery of the Holy Land from the Muslims.
Affect on Politics, Religions, Socities & Economics -allowed the kings to gain more land -monarchs won new rights to collect taxes in order to support Crusades -the Crusades further split the Roman and Byzantine Churches -allowed expansion of trade which lead to economic growth
