Treatments
Broken Head: -Have patient hold mouth and nostrils shut and blow -if air was released head was craccked into crebrum -if would was narrow, enlarge it -immediately trephine with iron instrument on both sides of fracture -they would make as many holes as they thought wise - then the cranium would be cut from one hole to another with a bistoury -they would remove oozing puss -then they would medicate it
Bladder Stones: -Strong person would sit on bench, patient on lap would have legs bound to his neck with a bandage -bladder stones were removed by a method called “Celsan” -patient put on diet for several days to work stones to urinary tract -physician inserted a finger in the anus to work the stone downward -Once stone was worked to the outlet of the bladder, it was removed by surgery -operation was performed from the rear - surgeon extracts the stone through a bloody incision.
Back Pain: -ladder was padded with soft cloths -Patient lay on it, on his back -Bandage patient to ladder with soft but strong bandages -ankles tied to the ladder; legs bound to the hips. -arms and hands tied to his sides -raise the ladder against a high tower or house. -drop it by a pulley
