Imperialism in West Africa
Imperialism- The ruloing over extensive territories or colonies that are not yours.
* Imperialism has affected West Africa greatly over the past 100 years. France and Spain are the two countries primarly responsible for all the chaos. *The legacy of imperialism is a cycle: *Countries come in and take over. * They rule for a long period of time. * They leave the country. *No one knows who's in power. * They Try to rebuild. * War breaks out. *Today there are many forms of imperialism out there. The United States invading Iraq is one example of imperialism that exists today. They went in and are trying to ''Americanize'' their country.
Facts About Imperialism
1462- Portuguese land on the coast and named Seirra Leone. (Imperialism Starts) 1700-1800- Slave trade thrives in Seirra Leone. 1808- Serria Leone becomes a british colony. 1898- First revolt by the people of Sierra Leone over the''hut tax'' 1951- Consitution is written giving some power to the people. 1961- Sierra Leone becomes INDEPENDENT. 1967- Military coup over throws the elected government that was put in place by the British Government. 1991-Civil War breaks out as RUF. 1991-2001- Civil war continues and reaches Seirra Leone. 2002- Civil Waris declared Over, but the fighting contiunes.
