Establishing the Difference by Dana Ledford
A word processed document is BORING!!!!!!
Presenting a paper in hypermedia format is FUN!
Hypermedia is Welcoming and Inviting!
Writing a paper using a word processor is old technology. The black and white screen is unappealing to the senses. It lacks audio, video and graphics. It’s simply boring. The word processor also lacks the capabilities to include clickable links, hypertext. No interactivity exists for the reader. Very little technology is used when writing a paper using a word processor. Writing a paper using hypermedia is the latest, most flexible way of presenting new information. The hypermedia format is non-linear and user-driven. The reader is given the opportunity to experience the learning. It is more appealing to the senses because it involves listening, watching, and clicking on the links to manipulate the screen. Readers become more interested and engaged through the interactivity and hands-on features. Reading with hypertext is also much easier to comprehend because it has the capability of containing clickable links to audio, video and contextual annotations. The color, graphics, audio and video elements are a welcoming and inviting use of multimedia. The multiple presentation modes offer collaboration with peers, locally and/or globally. A paper can be presented in a variety of forms: podcast, Glogster or Flypaper, gaming, etc… The opportunities available on the web are endless and new opportunities arise each day.
