The Fall of Greece & Rome!

Greece Falls to Rome ~ Macedonian Greeks conquered the Greek mainlands & peninsula. ~Rome influenced greatly by Greek culture. ~Rome, behind Philip's back, tried to take over Greek territories, starting 2nd Macedonian War ~Rome invades Greece again in 3rd Macedonian War & Greece completely fades out of the picture. ~Greeks were thinkers, rather than doers, which didn't advance them. ~Greeks didn't have any history that they could refer to. ~Greeks glorified their city-states ~Greeks obssesed with personal civilization of individuals. ~Greeks prevented further growth during Hellenistic Age because they thought their city-states were the world
Rome Implodes ~Fell as result of internal pressure & invasion from outside. ~No one explanation that accounts for Rome's decline & fall. ~Romans were scheming, devious, opportunistic, & plainly insane. ~Rome struggled with tension between patricians & plebians. ~Governors made harsh taxes ~Roman Empire became vast money-making machine, because of this, tensions between classes arose and the Republicans lived in a state of crisis. ~Intro of Christianity ~Morals & values could not be maintained ~Crimes & violence broke out, city-states were unsafe. ~Public health became bad, water wasnt purified anymore, & diseases spread. ~Alcohols use increased & death rate became very high. ~186 A.D. the Roman Army strangled the new emperor, ~37 new emperors took office & 25 were removed by assassination. ~Unemployment arose. ~Inflation began with flow of gold decreasing, the stopping of new conquered land, and merchants raised prices on goods. ~Urban decay began in the cities, and poor living conditions increased greatly. ~Military spending became a huge problem. They had to spend more money to defend the borders from Barbarians. This left few resources for other activities such as providing public housing, and maintaining their roads & aqueducts. ~Romans lost desire to defend the Roman Empire. ~Taxes were increasingly raised. ***The Roman Soldiers had to leave their stations at Rhine-Danube to fight the Civil War in Italy, and Germany attacked, completely wiping out what was left of Rome.

The Scene for the Dark & Middle Ages! ~Rome didn't just collapse over night, it to many, many years to die out. ~Some things that the Romans & the Greeks did, showed the Dark & Middle Ages what and what not to do with government, and everyday life. ~The Dark & Middle Ages still had warfare, techniques in farming, and different classes like the Romans & the Greeks, but just at a higher & more advanced level in doing things.
Connections to Today. ~The art & architecture of special & just regular buildings in the United States such as; The Capital Building, & The Philadelphia Museum of Art. *ex.: arches, domes ~The influence of classes in our society today. *ex. : poor, middle class, & wealthy ~Mathematics, Science, Medicine, & Technology. *ex.: Pythagorean Theorem ~Literature, Poetry *ex: The Iliad & the Odyssey ~Playwrites, & theaters. *ex. The story & life of Caesar ~Use of marble, limestone, & wood in art & architecture. *ex. : buildings, statues, works of art ~Military Tactics *ex. guarding the borders
