Indian Yellow Nosed Albatross (Thalassarche carteri)
The Indian Yellow Nosed Albatross spends most of its time out at sea and only lands when its time for breeding. preferring slopes and cliffs in rocky regions, with little vegetation. For exmaple... Amsterdam Island, St Pauls Island and Crozet Islands.
The Indian Yellow Nosed Albatross feeds on other organisms which mostly live in the sea, because they spend their time out in the ocean more than the land. They eat fishes, squids, crustaceans (Big shrimps).
This bird has a adpatation which is quite significantly different to other sea birds. This adaptation that they have is called Dynamic Soaring. This means that it can fly for a longer amount of distance without having to put much effort in steering. This allows their species to survive in their enviroment which is mainly the sea. The seas harsh winds would make it hard for any other bird to do this.
Its stream line body and large wings makes it able to survive in the conditions which it lives in. The wings are black which allows it to absorb the heat from above. Their large wings makes it suitable for gliding more than flying. These adaptations only benefit the Indian Yellow nosed Albtrosses.
The Indian Yellow Nosed Albatross has become an endangered Speices due to Longlining fishing. These birds dive in the water for their bait but get caught from the lines and eventually drowns. This is one of the main threats inorder for them to survive. Another Threat which makes them an endangered species is from the outbreak of diseases. An exmaple is avian cholera a diseases which is spreaded through colonies of birds and makes the bird sick and often would give them diarrohea and could lead to death.
