Habitat: The Takahe's natural habitat is mostly the wet grasslands. They are also seen near small creeks and rivers.
The Takahe eats tussocks, fern roots, mountain daisys, sedges and herbs and moths. but they mostly eat the tussocks as its easy to find. How ever they do not get enough nutrition from it.
The main reason of why the Takahe is endangered is because of the arrival of rats, stoats, deers and other pests which made it hard for the Takahes to survive. This reduced the number of Tussock ferns which made it diffictult for them to reproduce.
The Takahe has stubby and strong legs which help it walk through swamps and swampy areas which prevent it from sinking. Also their red beaks are strong which helps them break the roots of the Tussocks easily without hassle
