THE SILK ROAD
LINKING CHINA Around 100 B.C., the Han Dynasty Emperor Wudi opened up a 4,000 mile network of trade routes which connected China to Central Asia and Western Europe, which would later be named the Silk Road.
GOODS TRADED China sent large quantities of silk across Asia, in exchange for : walnuts, fig,s grapes, cucumbers from Western Asia, glass from Rome, muslin from India, and furs from Central Asia. Goods were often traded in stages and rarley did any item travel the full duration of the 4,000 miles linking China to the Middle East.
QUESTIONS 1. The reason why China set up the Silk Road was to not only expand networking with Central and Wester Europe, but to recieve new and useful goods and items that they could not produce in China. 2. The conditions were very dificult for merchants who traveled because not only did they have to cross hundreds of miles, but they had to cross deadly deserts. 3. The immediate reaction for both China and the rest of Asia was to keep this network sustaining for as long as they could because of the great profit and ideas that everyone was recieving.
