Pittsburgh Pirates through the 1970's
The 1971 Pittsburgh Pirates were World Series Champs. They had some of baseballs all time greatest players on their roster. Pictured aove is who i consider one of the top three players of all time , Roberto Clemente. He played a big part in the Pirates success that season. They Finished with a record of 97-65.
1971
1979
The 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates are considered to be one of the greatest teams ever. Led to another World Series by power hitting Willie Stargell, who also played for the 1971 team. They finished the season with a record of 98-64 and this was the beginning of a slight decline for the pirates during the 80's.
They won the National League East 5 different times in the 1970's. However they only won 2 World Series. They are the best team of that decade and will be remembered as just that
The Stadium Three Rivers Stadium took the place of the historic Forbes Field. It was opened in 1970 and proved to be a lucky chram for the Pirates and the Steelers as both teams won championships during the 70's. It was used until 1999.
The Pirates Created a Dynasty in the 1970s. While winning their division 5 times in the 70's going along with 2 World Series victories they became one of the top powerhouses of the century. They are the best the Pirates have played to date.
