The book A Long Way Gone is a young Sierra Leonean boy's biography, but the twist is he is growing up in one of the worst civil wars of all time. Women are being raped, people are being brutally slaughtered, limbs are being chopped off to prove a point and of course young Ishmeal is a child who is holstering an AK-47.
