Science Fair Project
I was dreading the science fair the minute I was told I had to do it. We were told by Mrs. Allen that we had to choose a question and conduct an experiment by the first week of term 3. Our class started looking through books and on the net for ideas we could use. It took me a while but I finally decided on a question “What chewing gum brand has the longest lasting flavour?” At school we filled out planning sheets so that it would be easier for us to conduct the experiment. We wrote up the aim, hypothesis, equipment and method. When school finished and it was the holidays we were supposed to carry out the experiment and complete the rest of the project. But I became sick. I had the flu and couldn’t go out and buy the equipment I needed. By the time I got better it was the last few days of the holidays and I decided to change my project. I changed it to “When cutting an onion, what method delays tears for the longest time and why?” For the next few days I did research wrote up my aim, hypothesis, equipment and method. I conducted the experiment and completed the rest of the written work. When term 4 started I still hadn’t printed my work and stuck it down on my display board. I told Mrs. Allen about my situation and she told me I still had one week to put all the finishing touches onto my project before I had to bring it to school for judging. I was so relieved. In the next week I finished my project and put all the finishing touches onto it. It took it to school for judging. Mrs. Allen judged all the science projects from our class and picked eight to go through to the school science fair. My project was one of eight that got chosen. At the School Science Fair I was awarded “Best of Class” and “Excellent Effort”.
