The raven:: The raven is a flesh-eater, an animal that can live off of the death of others. While in the ark the raven began to resent Noah because he kept him caged up and fed him only birdseed. When Noah released the raven to see if the waters had dried up the raven took off and enjoyed his freedom. Being that the waters had not yet dried up the only way the raven could rest is if it perched itself on a decaying body floating in the water, but this did not bother the raven. The raven was happy to be out free in a dirty and decaying world rather than return to Noah and the ark that had housed and saved him during the flood.

The dove:: The dove was released into the same world as the raven. After circling around the earth and finding nothing it could perch on and rest it returned back to Noah and the ark, and Noah welcomed the animal back clean and unchanged. The dove knew it was better be safe in a cage and loved then living in a dirty world. Noah accepted the dove and brought it close to him and protected the animal.

It's not about how you live but what you leave. We have to learn to live beyond ourselves and live for furture generations. What we do today effects tomorrow. It's a ripple effect, like an echo that keeps going and repeating itself. We have to decide if we want to be a raven and enjoy the freedom of here and now or the dove and appreciate the cage you have been given and live in the love of the Lord forever.

There is a raven and dove nature in all of us. We have to decide which which nature are we going to nuture. We can be like the raven because God gave us our freedom in life to make our own decisions. Do we turn our back on him and live for the "party scene" in the decaying world? Or do we nurture the dove and come back to the Lord clean and living in his word?

There are always going to be some places, some activities, and some people that we need to say "my feet can't rest here" just like the dove. We need to stay clean and return to our protector, our providor, the one who loves us. This is how we nuture our dove nature.

Genesis 8 : 6-9 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
