The cornet couldn’t be developed without piston valves created by Heinrich Stolzel and Friedrich Bluhmel. The cornet was used as a type of hunting horn in the second half of the 17th century. By the creation of the piston valves they were able to come up with the cornet and the trumpet. The cornet is similar to the trumpet and belongs to the brass instrument family.
Originally from the post horn, it can be called a “cornopean” which refers to the Stolzel valve system.
