In 1990 there was a national flag competition in New Zealand. but none of the entries showed any maori acknowledgement or inspiration, Te Kawari therefore held their own maori flag competition. and the winning entry is shown to the left.
The 2 keys mean St Peter. The 3 wells mean Northwell, Southwell and Eastwell. The Black is for Saint below. The White is for Saints above. Per Aspera Ad Astrum means REACH FOR THE STARS.
The school Chapel was erected by the work of former boys of the school. The boys made the first part that was completed in 1926. Later some other boys made an further extension to make a war memorial tower that was complted in 1956
