During winter raccoons sleep in their den for a few weeks, but they do not hibernate. The raccoons are good swimmers and often catch their food in water. A female raccoon gives birth to about 4-6 babies.
The raccoons live in the woods and near water. They might also be found in some cities, because they are very adaptable. Raccoons make their home in caves, barns and houses. Raccoons eat fruits, nuts, berries, insects, frogs, eggs and fish. In some other areas, corn is the main dish for the raccoons.
The raccoon is a medium – sized mammal, found in most of the United States, Canada, Mexico and in northern South America. Raccoons have grey or brown fur and the special thing for them is their black mask around the eyes. The have a white stripe starting from their forehead and ending on their nose. The raccoons have five, flexible toes, which help them grad, pull and hold things.
