Ejected Ring Theory- A planetesimal the size of Mars hit Earth, ejecting large volumes of matter. A disk of orbiting material was formed which became the moon.
Colliding Theory- The interaction of Earth-orbiting and sun-orbiting planetesimals early in the history of the solar system led to their break up. the moon condensed from this debris.
Capture Theory- The moon was formed somewhere else and was later captured by the gravitational field on Earth.
Fission Theory- The moon is part of the Earth and somehow seperated from the Earth early in history of the Solar System.
Five Theories of the Moon
Condensation Theory- The moon and Earth condensed together from the original nebulae. The moon formed in orbit of the sun and stayed there.
I think the theory that is most likely to have happened is the ejected ring theory because it can explain why the moon is mostly made of rock, and how the rock was excessively heated.
I think the theory that is least likely to have happened is the condensation theory because they have different densities and compositions. the moon lacks materials like water which is an abundant on Earth.
