Another Death from the Reign Of Terror
August 30th, 1793
Le Journal de Paris
More lives were taken in the past week than any other since the beginning of the Reign of Terror. One of yesterday's victims was Olympe de Gouges. This woman, one of the many, hoped that the Declaration of Rights of Man would include equal rights for women, also. She was sadly mistaken. When Nicolas de Condorcet and Etta Palm
d'Aelders tried to extend the rights of man to women, unsuccessfully, it provoked Olympe de Gouges to publish a brochure. She wrote the 'Declaration of the Rights of Women and of the Female Citizen'. Olympe de Gouges was executed at half-past noon, yesterday. She will be mourned for by many.

After executing King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, how many more are going to die at the mercy of the guillotine? Innocent people are dying every day. We need to stop this madness. We are not helping France by killing good citizens, ones who have done nothing wrong; except questioning the cruelty of the National Assembly. -anonymous
