Extract From My Story
I see my own death in every place and in everyone, I see it in the smoke of a sputtering candle, in dim mirrors and still water; I see it among the hooves of my black stallion and in the dark eye of every raven. It is in my lover’s smile and lurks in every shadow and every dream. I close my eyes and it is there. It chases me, a sinister second shadow. It’s a dark presence always stalking never stopping. It’s my punishment. But I’m getting ahead of myself there, throwing you in at the middle of the story, so let’s start at the beginning. Let me take you back a year, back to the night I met him, back to that dreadfully wonderful night I died. ***** It was that, oh-so familiar gloomy night, Halloween, I still find it ironic that that was the night I came to my end. I was sat in the graveyard, staring at my father’s grave, the air around me was icy-cold, I see my breath as it merge into the dark, endless fog that encased the village around me. I supposed to be at my sister’s party, but I couldn’t, even though I was wearing my costume, a long black lacy dress, black ankle boots, a red mask, and the black and red wig that I was wearing upon my head. I couldn’t bring myself to forget what I had done, it was my fault he’d died, if id only told the truth, if I’d only been where I should have been, he would be alive, it was my fault, and everyone knew it. They all blamed me, even my darling mother. I was rejected by everyone, except him. Maybe that's why i loved him so much. He did the one thing that no-one else ever could, he cared.
