Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
CRPS is caused by a injury to a nerve through either a sport, or another accident. This Disease makes the patient feel pain in their limbs when there is no reason why they should be feeling pain. For Example, a volleyball player might have injured her back tthroughout the season, and one day her wrist becomes painful and cannot handle it being touched. This is CRPS.
Effects on the Body - The disease could actually make your bones and nerves alter, which means that permenate damage could take place if not treated properly. Once the Bones morph and the swelling is considered normal by your body, it may never go away. - Cab lead to Heart Attack or Stroke (If nerve effected leads to heart or brain)
Diagnosis - thermography (to see the temperature of affected limb compared to the entire body) - Physical and Full Examination of the Athlete - CRPS is very difficult to diagnosis and often times diagnosed to late.
Treatment *Irritation Therapy (skin becomes very sensative to everything, even clothing could send an athlete into tears) *Heat and Cooling Tretment *Injectable Medications (Such as epidural) *Teach the person tricks to cope with the pain
Signs and Symptoms *Skin Discoloration (usually redness, blueness, paleness, or blotchiness) *Some Swelling *Abnormal coolness of the skin for an injury *Unpredictablilty (Pain may last months, while sometimes it lasts just days, and you never know if it will come back)
