The countries that were MOST affected: - India - Indonesia - Thailand - Sru Lanka
What did WE do?
The final death toll of the tsunami was 169,752 people and there were still thousands missing. (As of February 22, 2005)
Initially the United States pledged $35 million to relief for Indonesia and surrounding areas. Since many less fortunate countries had pledged close to $1 billion, the United States attempt was considered meek and greedy by the public eye. Due mainly to public criticism, the United Stated made a commitment of $500 million. Some smaller charities made an effort to donate more money, as well as care packages that included food and other basic necessities.
