Mr. Parsons was acquitted in November, 1998 and was convicted in 1994 of the first-degree murder of his mother. The Newfoundland and Labrador Court of Appeal ordered a new trial in 1996, and the provincial Crown requested a stay of proceedings in 1998, when DNA proved Mr. Parsons innocent. AIDWYC subsequently intervened and requested that the Court of Appeal set aside the stay and enter an acquittal. With the Crowns consent, Mr. Parsons was acquitted in November, 1998. - CBC News
