Church Obligations
Individual: Each member of the the Puritan church believed that the Bible is God's only true law, and each action should be inspired form God's will. At the end of time, each person will be responsible to God for their actions. Every evil deed they commited was Satan's doing. Also, education, reading the bible and hard work were honors to God and would be rewarded. (''Puritans'')
Role Of Ministers: In order to become a minister, first you had to be qualified. A minister had to posses intimate knowledge of the bible, undertsand Puritan values, and they could not be a female. Ministers also had to be men of the Word. They had to live by the Word day and night as a role model for the congregation. The main role of a Puritan minister was preaching the Word of God to the congregation. They would spend hours every week studying the word and preparing their sermons. This Puritan doctrine is known as Sola Scriptura (Scipture Alone). Ministers preached anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours. If the message was solid the congregation would even ask the minister to go on.
