-Victor was obsessed with knowledge on his quest to unfold the mysteries of nature and her ways.
Similarities between Frankienstein & the Ancient Mariner
- The Mariner was cursed with the knowledge that he'd have to share his story with the next person that he met.
Burden of Knowledge
-The Mariner was desolate and alone when all of his shipmates were forcibly taken from him by Death and his companion. He was completely deserted.
Isolation & Desolation
-Victor is tormented by his guilt and disgust because of his own creation, and chooses to isolate himself from the world. (Extreme case was during the creation of his monster.)
The ocean, the night sky, and the albatross all play a key role in the Mariner's 'redemption' story. Nature is key to his character change.
-Victor went against what he believed was a diety, or close to it- nature. In bringing back the dead, he showed defiance.
Shelley av1dly describes the nature around Victor, the setting, the sights seen during his travelling... It was a descriptive setting, essentially, that played into the book's progress.
Romantic view of Nature
The Albatross was an innocent creature in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and yet, because it kept circling, the man shot it down-
-The creature that Frankienstein created was assumably innocent at his creation. Because of his (near-)constant rejection, his innocence is lost, and he behaves deplorably.
Innocence lost/ An Innocent Perverted
When the Mariner killed the Albatross, who was to lead his ship to land, he disrespected nature/greater power.
Rebellion & Defiance
Consequently, his gaining of knowledge cursed him.
